The latest gaming handheld from Anbernic goes on sale in a few days. The innovative handheld with a rotating display will be available at prices starting at $88 and is designed to handle retro games that were developed for systems like the Game Boy Advance, the PlayStation 2 or the Nintendo Wii.

After Anbernic recently published an unboxing video for the RG Rotate, the manufacturer has finally confirmed when the unusual gaming handheld will be launched on the market. The handheld will be available with either a black plastic body with a metal front for $88 or with a silver metal body for $108.

Orders will open on May 11 at the manufacturer's online store. The Anbernic RG Rotate is particularly unusual because the square 3.5-inch touchscreen can be rotated using a hinge so that it either sits on top of the controls to enable more compact dimensions or above the gamepad, making the RG Rotate more reminiscent of a classic retro handheld. When closed, the handheld can also be used as a music player or display widgets thanks to Android 12.

The display achieves a resolution of 720 x 720 pixels. With an Unisoc Tiger T618 ARM chip from 2019, the handheld is only moderately powerful. Without analog sticks, the RG Rotate is particularly suitable for games that were originally developed for systems such as the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, but according to Anbernic, many games published for a Sony PSP, PlayStation 2 or GameCube also run smoothly.

The Anbernic RG Rotate offers 3 GB RAM and 32 GB flash memory, games can be saved on a microSD card. A 2,000 mAh battery should provide a battery life of up to five hours. Stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a gyroscope complete the package.
