The OnePlus Ace 6T is scheduled to launch in China on December 3, and a few weeks later, make its global debut as the OnePlus 15R. OnePlus has already revealed several details of the new smartphone, which will arrive as a more affordable alternative to its flagship, the OnePlus 15 (read our review). Now, it has provided additional information about the smartphone.
A new promotional poster for the OnePlus Ace 6T has revealed that the smartphone will feature a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, an upgrade over the optical fingerprint scanner used in previous OnePlus Ace models. Since the OnePlus Ace 6T will launch as the OnePlus 15R, it is safe to say the feature will be carried over to the global version.
The switch to an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is a big deal, as the OnePlus 13 (curr. available on Amazon for $799.99) was the first OnePlus smartphone to feature it, despite the technology already being available on phones such as the 2019 Samsung Galaxy S10.
Unlike an optical fingerprint scanner, an ultrasonic scanner works even if your finger is oily or wet. It is also more secure because it maps every ridge of your fingerprint, making it harder to fool. Whereas an optical fingerprint scanner doesn't work with wet or oily fingers and doesn't scan the ridges of your fingerprint, thus it can be fooled by a hi-res image of your fingerprint.
In addition to an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, OnePlus has also revealed that the OnePlus Ace 6T will have improved glove touch and Aqua Touch 2.0, which let users operate the display when wearing gloves and with wet hands, respectively. It will also feature ultra-linear dual-stereo speakers. All of these features are expected to be carried over to the OnePlus 15R.
