Anbernic has officially confirmed the existence of its next retro gaming handheld. Another pocketable device, the Anbernic RG Rotate should be powerful enough to emulate classic consoles while also serving as an MP3 player alternative.

Anbernic has returned with a new gaming handheld after launching the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro last month (curr. $179 on Amazon). While those handhelds featured a conventional horizontal form factor, the RG Rotate resembles the classic Motorola FlipOut. Confirming recent leaks, the company has showcased its new handheld in Aurora Silver and Polar Black finishes.

Seemingly, the former features an aluminium body, with the latter adopting ABS plastic instead. As usual, Anbernic is remaining coy about hardware specifications for the time being. Still, the video below has confirmed a few details like the inclusion of a 2,000 mAh battery with support for 10 W charging at 5V/2A. The handheld may only be capable of emulating up to Nintendo 64 games, though.

Unfortunately, the RG Rotate misses out on a 3.5 mm jack, despite Anbernic's promotion of the handheld as an MP3 player throwback. As a result, one must use a top-mounted USB Type-C port for audio output. The RG Rotate does contain a microSD card slot though, as well as swappable in-line shoulder buttons. Please see Anbernic's video below for more details.
