SNK has partnered with Plaion to launch a modern version of its 90s console, the NeoGeo AES. Called the NeoGeo AES+, it keeps the design of the original and is compatible with the original AES cartridges.

Plaion has announced a modern version of the hit SNK 90s console, the NeoGeo AES. The new console will be sold as the Neo Geo AES+, and it is available to pre-order now ahead of its release later this year.

The NeoGeo AES+ keeps the design of the original console, but adds modern features such as an HDMI port, DIP switches for language selection, support for overclocking and display mode selection, and permanent high score saves (requires a memory card sold separately). The console also has AV input ports for those who wish to use it with a CRT TV.

The NeoGeo AES+ will come with a wired Arcade Stick.

What is interesting about the NeoGeo AES+ is that it isn't emulating the games neither does it use FPGA (Field-Gate Programmable Array) like the Analogue 3D (Funtastic Limited Edition available on Amazon for $499.98). Instead, Plaion says the console uses legacy ASIC chips that have been “re-engineered to modern standards to accurately replicate the original console's hardware and software”.

The NeoGeo AES+ has support for both new and original NeoGeo AES game cartridges. It also comes with a 1:1 replica of the Arcade Stick which connects to the console via the classic 15-pin connector. This makes it compatible with the original NeoGeo AES console. It also means that owners of the original Arcade Stick can use it with the new NeoGeo AES+.

The NeoGeo AES+ Anniversary Edition is white and comes with a wireless Arcade Stick.

Plaion will also be selling 10 classic game cartridges including Metal Slug and Big Tournament Golf as well as a wireless version of the original SNK NeoGeo Gamepad.

The NeoGeo AES+ is available to pre-order now for $249.99 and will begin to ship on the 12th of November 2026. Unlike the Analogue 3D, it will come with a controller (Arcade Stick). It will also ship with an HDMI cable and a power brick.

The NeoGeo AES+ Ultimate Edition includes 10 game cartridges.

There will also be a NeoGeo AES+ Anniversary Edition which comes in white and includes a white Metal Slug game cartridge, a white Wireless Arcade Stick with a matching 15-pin dongle, and a white memory card. This version is also available for pre-order for $349.99.

Last but not least is the NeoGeo AES+ Ultimate Edition that includes the console in black with a matching wired Arcade Stick, wireless Arcade Stick, wireless Gamepad, memory card, and 10 NeoGeo game cartridges with a game rack. This version will be available in very limited quantities and can be pre-ordered now for $999.99.
