AYN Thor Max (16GB + 1TB) gets a price increase; new 16GB RAM + 512GB variant announced

Earlier it was reported that AYN will be switching to UFS 3.1 for its handhelds, the Thor and Odin 3, both of which originally launched with UFS 4.0 storage. However, that isn't the only bad news from the handheld manufacturer.
AYN has also announced that the highest configuration of the dual-screen Thor, which is called the Thor Max, will be getting a price increase. The Thor Max has 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, and when it launched it cost $429 for the first batch of pre-orders. It later went up to $449 before jumping to $489 last month due to the exponential increase in the cost of RAM.
AYN says the Thor Max will now sell for $549 due to the high cost of UFS storage. This is despite the fact that it will no longer ship with the faster UFS 4.0 storage it launched with, but the slower UFS 3.1 storage. So not only will people be paying more, but they will also be getting slower storage.
If you were to ask us, it would have been better to discontinue that version of the Thor rather than asking people to pay more for toned-down specs. Interestingly, AYN chose a different line of action as it has announced a new Thor Max that has 16GB of RAM but 512GB of storage for $469. This variant, which is available in all four colors, has already been added to the store page and can be purchased now, so it ships with the next batch of pre-orders (Batch 6).
As it stands now, there are five variants of the AYN Thor:
- Thor Lite (Snapdragon 865 + 8GB RAM + 128GB storage) = $249
- Thor Base (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 + 8GB RAM + 128GB storage) = $319
- Thor Pro (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 + 12GB RAM + 256GB storage) = $399
- Thor Max (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 + 16GB RAM + 512GB storage) = $469
- Thor Max (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 + 16GB RAM + 1TB storage) = $549
AYN has begun accepting a new batch of pre-orders (Batch 6), but according to its website, orders won't start shipping until mid-June.
