Nintendo drops a new Ocarina of Time key visual hours before the Zelda Direct

We're just hours away from Nintendo’s Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct presentation, and the company is already building momentum by dropping a brand-new key visual. The promotional artwork released by Nintendo Japan depicts Young Link asleep in his bed within Kokiri Forest. This closely matches the quiet, atmospheric tone of the initial Switch 2 teaser trailer shown back in June.
While the new image does not reveal any major gameplay mechanics, it offers a closer look at Link’s redesigned character model. The visual style noticeably shifts away from the cel-shaded aesthetic popularized by recent open-world entries, opting instead for a more grounded, realistic interpretation of Hyrule. This stylistic pivot could be intentional, designed to align the franchise's visual identity with the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda film, slated for 2027.
Fans won't have to rely on still images for much longer as the broadcast officially kicks off today at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET across Nintendo's official YouTube channels and the Nintendo Today app. The presentation is locked in for a focused 30-minute runtime and will dedicate a significant portion of that window to the highly anticipated Ocarina of Time remake, alongside broader franchise anniversary initiatives.
The primary draw for today's showcase is the expectation of the game's first substantial gameplay reveal. Recent insider leaks and retail backend data pointing to Monolith Soft's heavy involvement suggest the project has abandoned a strict 1:1 recreation format. Instead, players are anticipating a massive reimagining that could introduce a seamless open world without load screens, redesigned dungeons, such as the infamous Water Temple, and modernized third-person combat mechanics built specifically to leverage the new Switch 2 hardware.
Ahead of the official showcase, Nintendo's own regional storefronts accidentally spoiled a major detail regarding the game's launch. The Australian Nintendo eShop briefly went live with a digital listing for the Ocarina of Time remake, pricing the title at $94.95 AUD. Based on standard regional pricing conversions, this directly translates to a $59.99 price tag for the digital release.
