Nintendo Switch 2 rumoured to hit shelves in March 2025
After a quintessential 'announcement of an announcement', Nintendo openly talked about its next console (Nintendo Switch 2, Super Switch, etc.) on one or two occasions. While we still don't have a release window, the company is committed to launching it before April 2024. Now, a new rumour from Weibo and Famiboards claims to know about a tentative announcement window.
Nintendo will unveil the Switch 2 in January 2025, and it will hit shelves globally in March 2025. While this seems plausible, it would make more fiscal sense for Nintendo to start selling it after April 2025, once the financial year ends. Then again, this is a rumour, and we'll only know for sure in January if it is accurate.
Another Weibo post agrees with the January announcement theory and states Nintendo plans to ship around 650,000 Switch 2 units "in each region" in the first month. This aligns with an earlier leak which said there would be 7 million consoles up for grabs at launch.
It is clear that Nintendo is banking on the Switch 2 to be a massive commercial success, and based on its predecessor's sales figures, it almost certainly will be. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond should be one of the first games that will debut alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. You should be able to play it on your original Switch, too, as Nintendo has confirmed full backward compatibility across both platforms.
