One-Netbook is the first company to announce an AMD Strix Point gaming handheld, the OneXFly F1 Pro. The brand started to take pre-orders earlier this month, and now, it has started shipping the pre-sale orders. The good part is that the pre-order discounts are still live.
That means you can still get the OneXFly F1 Pro with the RyzenAI 9 365, 32 GB of RAM, and 1 TB of storage for $1,099 instead of $1,219. While that's a generous $120 discount from the regular price, it's still higher than what the last-gen gaming handhelds sell for.
As a matter of fact, you can now get the last-gen handhelds for even lower prices thanks to the frequent sales that they see (Z1 Extreme ROG Ally curr. $499.99 on Best Buy). The price jump is even more noticeable when you consider what the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 variant starts it. With the pre-sale deal in place, the base configuration of the upper-end model is $1,339.
Of course, it's not really surprising to see such high price tags on the OneXFly F1 Pro. Most of the Strix Point offerings have seen a price bump. As a GPD official reported in September of this year, AMD is allegedly selling the Strix Point APUs at twice the price of Hawk Point predecessors.
That's probably why there haven't been any affordable Zen 5 offerings yet. Nonetheless, with the new RDNA 3.5 iGPUs, the Ryzen AI 9 365 OneXFly F1 Pro can deliver around 15% better performance than the ROG Ally X with Z1 Extreme, while the AI 9 HX 370 can offer about 20% improved performance.
It will be interesting to see how well the upcoming Ryzen Z2 series compares against the last-gen handhelds with the Z1 APU lineup. This new gaming handheld APU is rumored to launch in CES 2025, so the wait might not be long.
