X-Plus has introduced the Piccolo Series71, a new mobile system that’s advertised as a 2-in-1 netbook. Specifically, it's a laptop with a very compact 7-inch touchscreen, and the device itself measures just 7.3 x 5.6 x 0.8 inches. It's listed with a weight of 1.48 lbs, which should make it very portable.
The display is not only limited in terms of screen size but also resolution, as 1280 x 800 pixels is not particularly high. The IPS panel can optionally be used with a stylus with 2048 pressure levels. Currently, the netbook is only offered with an Intel N100, which is a processor with rather limited performance. However, the manufacturer is asking customers which chipsets they would like to see in the Piccolo Series71, which means that more configurations might be offered in the future.
As of today, the notebook is always equipped with 16GB DDR4 RAM that’s soldered can’t be upgraded after purchase. On the other hand, the pre-installed SSD with up to 2TB of capacity can be replaced with an M.2 2242 module later on. Furthermore, a microSD card can be used for easy and quick storage expansion, at least if extremely quick data transfers are not needed.
Two USB 3.0 ports are available as well, while an external display can be connected via mini HDMI. Speakers and a microphone are built-in, while wireless network connections can be established on the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Ethernet can be retrofitted via a USB dongle. Lastly, the tiny 7-inch netbook has an integrated webcam and the model variant with the 512GB SSD sells for a rather reasonable price of $249.
