Nvidia has only just announced the GeForce RTX 5050 for laptops. For context, the company also introduced a desktop version too with a mere 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. While the latter will remain unavailable until next month, the former can already be ordered in some markets.
As far as we can tell, Asus is the first laptop OEM to officially release an RTX 5050 laptop. Incidentally, the same company was spotted listing the ROG Strix G16 with Nvidia's latest laptop GPU almost two weeks ago. However, that listing has now been taken offline.
By contrast, the Vivobook Pro 16 can be ordered from today in China with a Core 5 210H processor from Intel's Raptor Lake-H series. In practice, this processor will deliver worse CPU performance than those that can be optioned in the Vivobook Pro 16 that we reviewed eighteen months ago (curr. $1,199.99 on Amazon).
Apparently, the GeForce RTX 5050 may reach the GeForce RTX 4060 in performance despite having a 20% CUDA core deficit. For reference, the GeForce RTX 5050 has up to 115 W of power at its disposal; Asus has not confirmed the GPU's Total Graphics Power (TGP) in the Vivobook Pro 16, though. The GeForce RTX 5050 can currently be picked up with 1 TB of PCIe 4.0 storage, 16 GB of DDR5-5200 RAM and a 144 Hz display for CNY 5,999 (~$836). There is no word on the timing of an international release yet.
