Rumor | Next-gen AirPods Pro will upgrade to a case with Apple Find My integration and more
Apple has now provided a new iteration of its AirPods; now, it is expected to do the same with the accessories' Pro variants in 2022. They have been rumored to come with a completely new design that might even get rid of the signature stems. The latest renders allegedly showing these next-gen TWS earbuds do not support this theory; however, they do suggest some new and potentially useful alterations to their charging case.
The new images show that the "AirPods Pro 2 case" will be as squat, shiny and white as its alleged predecessor. However, further shots of the device's back and sides reveals something new: an inbuilt lanyard attachment, whereas the peripherals would have required an additional case or bumper to get this kind of functionality.
However, and possibly more crucially, the "new" case as portrayed here has what looks like lines of speaker-grille holes drilled in on either side of its USB type-C charging port, much like those of a phone. MacRumors, the blog that has published these renders, proposes that they are for novel on-board Find My support.
Accordingly, this case could also conceivably integrate AirTag technology. On the other hand, MacRumors concedes that their source for this new leak, identified only as "Xerxes", does not have many verified tips to their name to date.
