Beats Studio Buds launches as a cheaper alternative to the AirPods Pro with ANC and USB Type-C charging ↺
The AirPods Pro may be immensely popular, but Apple's flagship earbuds have some downsides. On the one hand, the AirPods Pro is expensive, putting it out of reach for many people. On the other hand, the earbuds offer Apple's proprietary Lightning charging connector. Additionally, the AirPods Pro possesses relatively weak battery life.
Apple has now improved in all these areas though, albeit with the Beats Studio Buds, rather than the AirPods Pro 2. The Beats Studio Buds features a USB Type-C port on its charging case, for example, which can recharge the earbuds up to two times. According to Apple, the Beats Studio Buds should last eight hours of continuous use, three hours longer than the AirPods Pro manages. We should stress that these battery life estimates are with ANC switched off. Activating noise cancellation drops the Studio Buds' battery life estimate to five hours. By contrast, the AirPods Pro is rated for up to 4:30 hours of use with ANC on.
Additionally, the Beats Studio Buds supports a transparency mode and IPX4 water resistance. Apple has integrated touch controls too and has enabled 'Hey Siri' functionality when the earbuds are connected to an iPhone.
The Beats Studio Buds will begin shipping on June 24 in the US for US$149.99. In addition, Apple will sell the earbuds in Beats Red, Black and White.
