Apple to refresh the AirPods Max this autumn alongside the AirPods Pro 2 ↺
Mark Gurman has delivered an update on the state of Apple's upcoming audio products. According to Gurman, Apple still hopes to reveal the AirPods Pro 2 this year, which is rumoured to feature a redesigned look, among other changes. For example, next-generation AirPods are thought to support lossless music playback via the Apple Lossless Audio codec (ALAC).
Moreover, Gurman states that people should 'look out for an AirPods Max refresh' this autumn. The analyst adds that Apple will introduce new colours this time around, albeit without offering any details about what changes the new AirPods Max could contain.
However, Gurman speculates that Apple will launch these second-generation AirPods Max at a lower price point than the current AirPods Max. For reference, Apple continues to sell the AirPods Max for US$549, a much higher price point than the Sony WH-1000XM4 or the upcoming WH-1000XM5. Unfortunately, it is unclear how Apple will distinguish next-generation AirPods Max from the inaugural model. Presumably, more details about the headphones will leak over the summer, barring any delays.
