Apple AirPods Pro 2: Design of next-generation premium earbuds leaks with a revised charging case
52audio has shared images of the AirPods Pro 2, the long-rumoured replacements for the AirPods Pro that Apple released in 2019. Previously, 52audio accurately leaked photos of the AirPods 3, as well as providing first looks at the original AirPods Pro three years ago. As far as we can tell, these images are marketing renders, or third-party CAD renders based on a leaked design.
Regardless, the images match the hands-on images leaked by MacRumors in October 2021. As such, the AirPods Pro 2 resemble the AirPods Pro, albeit with minor changes. Specifically, the earbuds retain the stem design of the AirPods Pro but with new sensors to detect when you have removed the earbuds from your ears. Purportedly, the AirPods Pro 2 will support the ALAC and LC3 codecs, which should deliver higher audio fidelity while reducing power consumption compared to the AAC and SBC that the original AirPods Pro supports.

Meanwhile, 52audio's leaked images underline that Apple will overhaul the AirPods Pro's charging case with the second-generation model. For one, the website claims that Apple will adopt a USB Type-C charging port, which 9to5Mac doubts is the case. Instead, the latter asserts that all AirPods products will continue to utilise the Lightning connector until after Apple releases the iPhone 15 series in 2025.
As it stands, Apple is expected to announce the AirPods Pro 2 at a launch event alongside the iPhone 14 series and the Watch Series 8. Currently, Apple is rumoured to have scheduled an event for September 13, during which it could also present the Watch Extreme Edition.
