Apple Watch Series 8: New render images emerge in what could also be the Apple Watch Extreme Edition
Jon Prosser has leaked renders for this year's Apple Watch releases, having collaborated again with Ian Zelbo. Incidentally, Prosser and Zelbo's renders arrive after another leaker revealed that the Watch Series 8 could feature flat display glass, unlike the Watch Series 7 and its predecessors.
According to Prosser, this year's Watch Series will launch with a substantial redesign, rather than the iterative changes that Apple has made in recent years. As Prosser and Zelbo's renders show, they expect the Watch Series 8 to debut with a revised chassis, along with a flat display. Seemingly, the display blends into the flat metal frame, which also has rounded corners.
Potentially, the design could be of the Watch Series 8 and the Watch Extreme Edition, or both. Originally reported by Bloomberg as the Explorer Edition, the Watch Extreme Edition is thought to be a rugged and more durable version of the Watch Series 8. However, it remains to be seen whether Apple will market the Watch Extreme Edition as an alternative to Garmin and Polar's many rugged smartwatches.
Currently, Apple's Watch Series refresh is believed to be earmarked for a September 13 hardware launch event. As we discussed earlier this week, Apple is also thought to have planned its iPhone 14 series reveal for the same event, along with Apple M2-powered versions of the Mac mini and the MacBook Pro.
