NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 series LHR mining limit gets fully bypassed: 100 percent hashrate now possible on NiceHash QuickMiner with LHR cards
NiceHash recently updated its QuickMiner software to fully unlock the mining potential of a range of NVIDIA GeForce Ampere series cards. The new update bypasses the LHR limiter on all GeForce RTX 3000 series cards, barring the 12GB GeForce RTX 3080 and the entry-level GeForce RTX 3050.
This is significant news for miners and could have an impact on the secondhand market value of older, non-LHR parts, which often sell for a premium. A year ago, NiceHash was able to partly bypass the LHR limiter, enabling up to 70 percent of non-LHR performance when mining Ethereum.
Interestingly, the first LHR unlock wasn't achieved by hackers or third-party developers. Rather, NVIDIA accidentally released its 470.05 GeForce drivers last March with LHR disabled, before rolling it back. The NiceHash unlock comes at an especially opportune time for miners - as both AMD and NVIDIA work to global chip shortage, GPU prices are coming back down. Near-MSRP Ampere cards with LHR bypassed could prove to be a promising option.
