New QD-OLED gaming monitors rumoured to be launching next year with 27-inch and 4K panels
CES 2024 was flooded with new QD-OLED gaming monitors. For context, manufacturers principally showcased 31.5-inch options, such as the Dell Alienware AW3225QF, HP Omen Transcend 32, Gigabyte AORUS FO32U2P and MSI's MAG 321UPX, MEG 321URX and MPG 321URX. However, there was also a few new 27-inch QD-OLED options, including the ASRock Phantom Gaming PGO270W2A, Dell Alienware AW2725DF, MSI MAG 271QPX and MSI MPG 271QRX.
To recap, the four 27-inch monitors listed above all combine a 2,560 x 1,440 1440p native resolution with a 360 Hz refresh rate. Thus, although they deliver a faster refresh rate than their 31.5-inch and 4K counterparts, they do so with less visual clarity. According to FlatpanelsHD and TFTCentral, Samsung is working to deliver a 27-inch and 4K option.
Reportedly, Samsung Display has achieved this jump from 1440p to 4K by refining its quantum dot (QD) inkjet production method. As a result, its next-generation QD-OLED panel will sport a pixel density of 160 PPI, 20 PPI higher than the 140 PPI offered in Gen 3 QD-OLED panels. Previously promoted at CES 2024 as 'coming soon', both outlets now claim to have received confirmation that this panel will not reach production until 2025. In other words, it may well appear at CES 2025 with a full release later that year.
