Reportedly, Samsung Display has confirmed plans to start producing a new QD-OLED panel in time for a release later this year. Seemingly unofficially debuting last month at CES 2024 in the ASRock Phantom Gaming PGO34QRT2A and Gigabyte AORUS MO34WQC, the probable Gen 3 QD-OLED panel will combine a 1440p resolution with a 240 Hz refresh rate across a 34-inch ultra-wide canvas.

TFTCentral has provided more insights into the state of OLED panel development at Samsung Display. For context, Samsung Display rivals LG Display as the dominant OLED panel supplier for Smart TVs and gaming monitors, among other products. Although some innovations are unlikely to begin shipping until 2025, there could be at least one new panel option that becomes available later year.

Specifically, TFTCentral claims to have received confirmation that Samsung Display will begin shipping another QD-OLED panel later this year. While all panel specifications remain unclear, the 34-inch panel is known to combine a 3,440 x 1,440-pixel resolution with a 240 Hz refresh rate. Thus, this 21:9 option effectively succeeds a Gen 1 QD-OLED panel found in the MSI MAG 341CQP QD-OLED and Philips Evnia 34M2C8600, which also outputs at 1440p but with a 175 Hz refresh rate.

Seemingly, this new 1440p and 240 Hz option was exhibited publicly last month at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. While speculative for now, it appears that the ASRock Phantom Gaming PGO34QRT2A and Gigabyte AORUS MO34WQC match these underlying panel characteristics. TFTCentral adds that this 1440p and 240 Hz option will feature technologies like Quantum Enhancer, with ASRock previously confirming that the Phantom Gaming PGO34QRT2A is VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certified.

However, it is unclear whether Samsung Display will categorise it as a QD-OLED Gen 3 panel, under which two options currently sit. For reference, various companies revealed gaming monitors with these panels at CES 2024, including Dell with the Alienware AW2725DF and Alienware AW3225QF. Samsung Display's as of yet unnamed QD-OLED panel is scheduled to enter production during 1H 2024, with no other details at the time of writing.
