It seems that Garmin could be planning a busy second half of the year. To recap, the company kicked off 2025 by introducing the Instinct E and Instinct 3 globally (curr. $449.99 on Amazon). Less than a month later, it offered up the Approach S44 and Approach S50 before moving on to the Instinct 3 Tactical Edition, Tactix 8 and Vivoactive 6 this season.
More recently, there have been suggestions that Garmin is preparing to launch not just the Forerunner 970 but also LTE versions of the Fenix E, Fenix 8 and other high-end smartwatches. However, it appears that Garmin is developing a successor to the D2 Mach 1, too.
Specifically, Garmin has started adding references to the D2 Mach 2 in relation to its Grade Adjusted Pace (GAP) software. For the time being, no evidence has appeared to outline how the company plans to distinguish the D2 Mach 2 from existing Mach 1 models. With that being said, the5krunner expects Garmin to build off the Fenix 8 for the D2 Mach 2 with a greater focus placed on aviation.
Thus, the next D2 should launch with upgrades like an AMOLED display, Elevate Gen 5 heart rate sensor and voice assistant support via microphone and speaker hardware. Unfortunately, it is too early to tell when Garmin will release the D2 Mach 2. The smartwatch's appearance in Garmin's support documents implies it will receive an official launch sooner rather than later, though.
