Samsung is getting close to unveiling its next generation of foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7. For quite a while, rumors and leaks have been percolating hinting at what to expected from the two phones. While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is said to be significantly slimmer than the previous generation, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to come with a larger cover display, much like Motorola’s Razr flagship. Now, the existence of the larger cover display has been spotted again, this time in leaked One UI 8 firmware.
The folks over at Android Authority claim to have access to leaked One UI 8 firmware and dissecting it a bit has revealed evidence of the design for the Galaxy Z Flip 7. There are a few images within the animation files in the leaked firmware that show the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Z Flip 6, and the Z Flip 7. The previous and current gen flip phones show existing design language while the image for the Z Flip 7 clearly shows a cover display that spans across the entire surface with just cutouts for the two cameras.
This is more akin to Motorola’s approach with the Razr series since the Razr+ 2024 (Buy on Amazon). The Razr 2023 also had a cover display with cutouts for the cameras but it did not span across the entire cover. Both the Razr+ 2024 and the Razr Ultra 2025 (Buy on Amazon) have 4-inch cover displays while the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Flip 6 (Buy on Amazon) have 3.4-inch displays.
The upcoming clamshell foldable from Samsung is expected to be powered by the Exynos 2500 SoC and it is unclear if there will be two models, one with Samsung’s own Exynos SoC and another with a Snapdragon 8 Elite. There have been rumors and leaks suggesting both. Motorola’s Razr flagship is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, for reference.
