Just yesterday, Google officially revealed Material 3 Expressive for Android 16 after briefly showing it online earlier this month. While Google used plenty of Samsung devices to showcase some of its UI changes, an early leak suggests that Samsung is unlikely to adopt many Material 3 Expressive elements for One UI 8.
Nonetheless, Samsung made its own mini announcement during Google I/O 2025 too. Despite encountering issues with rolling out One UI 7, Samsung is pressing ahead with the release of One UI 8 at a much faster cadence than previous One UI generations.
As the video below shows, Samsung has committed to offering One UI 8 based on Android 16 this summer. Possibly pushed by Google bringing forward the launch of its next major OS update, a summer 2025 release would give Samsung until September 22 to start shipping One UI 8 to existing devices. In all likelihood, One UI 8 will probably debut with the replacements for the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 (curr. $629.99 - refurbished on Amazon), which early benchmarks suggest will be the case. Presumably, Samsung will publish a One UI 8 rollout schedule around July or August for existing devices too, though.
