Garmin introduces the premium D2 Mach 1 smartwatch for pilots
Garmin has released the D2 Mach 1 smartwatch aimed at pilots. The device has a host of aviation, health and fitness features, many of which were included on the recently released D2 Air X10.
The main difference with the Mach 1 edition is the premium materials used; the bezel of the gadget is titanium, and the watch has a sapphire lens. Another variation is the moving map feature, which lets you pan across the map with your finger and click on waypoints for more information.
This premium wearable has a 1.3-in AMOLED display making it easy to read in bright conditions. You can access navigation tools through the watch, including a worldwide aviation database and an HSI course needle. The gadget has weather forecasts from NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs and MOS, and it can give you information about your destination airport.
From a health perspective, the smartwatch has both sleep monitoring and stress tracking features. The device has a built-in pulse oximeter to see how well your body is adapting to different altitudes. The Health Snapshot feature will also give you insights into your heart rate and respiration.
Fitness features include animated workouts for various activities such as cardio, strength and yoga. You can view workout performance analysis on stats like running dynamics and VO2 Max. Plus, the device has contactless payment abilities, smart notifications for calls, texts and calendar events.
The device’s battery can last for up to 11 days in smartwatch mode or 24 hours using the GPS and pulse oximeter. The Garmin D2 Mach 1 is now available to buy for US$1,299.99 with the vented titanium bracelet or US$1,199.99 with the Oxford leather band.
