Garmin Vivosmart 5 launches for US$149.99 with a larger OLED display, replaceable straps and 7 days of battery life
Garmin has unveiled the Vivosmart 5, a fitness tracker that replaces the Vivosmart 4. According to Garmin, the Vivosmart 5 has a 66% larger display than its predecessor, which remains an OLED panel. Specifically, the Vivosmart 5 display's measures 10.5 x 18.5 mm across and resolves at 88 x 154 pixels. In other words, the Vivosmart 5 should display text larger than its predecessor can.
Additionally, the larger display should make the touchscreen easier to use as well. However, Garmin has also added a physical button that sits beneath the display. Moreover, the Vivosmart 5 supports a replaceable bracelet, unlike its predecessor and provides up to 7 days of battery life with pulse ox sleep tracking excluded.
Garmin adds that the Vivosmart 5 is suitable to wear when swimming and can store up to 14 days of activity tracking data. Unsurprisingly, the Vivosmart 5 offers numerous fitness features, including heart rate, pulse ox and SpO2 sensors. The fitness tracker lacks a GPS module though, for reference. Currently, Garmin sells the Vivosmart 5 in small/medium and large sizes, which both retail for US$149.99. For some reason, the large size only comes with a black bracelet, but there are also Cool Mint and White options for the small/medium size.
