Garmin Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 955 series emerge on FCC before US release and possible June announcement
Garmin has certified new smartwatches with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US. Spotted by the5krunner, the smartwatches bear the model numbers IPH-04244, IPH-04308 and IPH-A4308. While the FCC does not reveal all details about the three smartwatches, we can presume that Garmin intends to release them in the US.
According to earlier leaks, the A04244 is likely the model number for the Forerunner 955, a smartwatch that has leaked previously. Unsurprisingly, the FCC confirms that A04244 supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, something of a given for modern smartwatches, especially ones as expensive as the Forerunner 9xx series.
Unfortunately, less is known about IPH-04308 and IPH-A4308. Potentially, these could be the Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 255s, which have also surfaced previously. However, the Singapore Telecom Licensing System (TLS) listed these as the A04308 and the AC4308; 'IPH' refers to Garmin's grantee code here, for reference.
Purportedly, all three smartwatches will debut next month, although Garmin has not confirmed anything yet. Based on previous rumours, Garmin also plans to release the Forerunner 255 Music and Forerunner 255s Music, which add music playback functionality and Wi-Fi connectivity over the Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 255s. Unfortunately, renders for any of Garmin's upcoming smartwatches have not leaked yet.
