Lenovo releases 16-inch gaming laptop with Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 12GB and Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor

Lenovo has refreshed another of its 16-inch gaming laptops with new models. To recap, the company recently updated the Legion Pro 5 16IAX10 with Intel's Core Ultra 7 251HX and Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processors. At the same time, it also added Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5070 12GB laptop GPU. The same is true of its AMD-backed sibling too, albeit without any processor upgrades.
Now, the Legion 7 16IAX10 can be added to the list of Legion laptops that Lenovo has silently upgraded with more powerful hardware. To recap, we considered the Legion 7 16IAX10 a formidable Razer Blade 16 competitor when reviewing it in 2025. At the time, we tested Lenovo's 16-inch laptop with the Core Ultra 7 255HX and the GeForce RTX 5060 with a 115 W TGP (curr. $1,939 on Amazon).
Previously, one could configure the Legion 7 16IAX10 with the Core Ultra 9 275HX and the GeForce RTX 5070 8GB. On the one hand, this configuration has been supplanted by the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, a newer Arrow Lake HX processor that delivers around 7% higher CPU performance in our benchmarks. On the other hand, Lenovo has also upgraded the Legion 7 16IAX10 to the GeForce RTX 5070 with 12 GB of VRAM.
According to Lenovo's PSREF website, only selected markets like Australia, India, Singapore and the US are set to receive the Legion 7 16IAX10 with these CPU and GPU upgrades. However, Lenovo's regional websites indicate that a global release could be on the cards, too.
Currently, we can only find the Legion 7 16IAX10 in the US with the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and a GeForce RTX 5070 12GB. Priced at $3,139.99, this SKU also contains 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD and a 1600p OLED display with a 240 Hz refresh rate and 1,100 nits peak brightness in HDR mode. At the time of writing, this SKU costs $553 more than the base Legion 7 16IAX10 but only about $50 more than configuring a Core Ultra 9 275HX model with the GeForce RTX 5070 8GB.
