LIFX launches new outdoor smart light range to rival Philips Hue
A new range of outdoor smart lights from LIFX is now on sale. These are the first products to be released by the brand for some time, now owned by Feit Electric. The smart lighting lineup includes string lights, lightstrips, path lights and a spotlight.
LIFX is looking to differentiate itself from competitors with its unique color blending style and high brightness levels of colored and white light. For example, the new LIFX lights have an adaptable color temperature between 1,500 to 9,000K, while a Philips Hue light has around 2,000 to 6,500K. The devices connect over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, meaning you do not need a bridge. Plus, all bar the string lights are Matter compatible, allowing them to integrate with platforms like Apple Home, Amazon Alexa and Google Home; the string lights will gain Matter support through a future update. Controls are also offered via the LIFX app and voice assistants.
The LIFX Smart String Light has 12 LED bulbs generating up to 600 lumens brightness. The cord is 24 ft (~7 m) long and IP66 weather resistant. The LIFX Smart Neon Flex Light, a flexible 16-ft (~5 m) long strip light, has a peak brightness of 2,150 lumens and an IP67 rating. The LIFX Path Lights come in square and round variants with up to 500 and 800 lumens brightness, respectively. These models feature six color blending zones and are IP66 dust and waterproof. The cheaper LIFX Smart Spotlight has three lighting zones and a maximum brightness of 1,600 lumens.
The new LIFX products are exclusively available at Home Depot in the US, starting from $79.99 (complete price list below). Whether or when they launch at other retailers and countries remains to be seen. According to the company, more products will be released in the next 18 months.
