IKEA is now selling its TRETAKT smart plug in a few stores in the EU. The gadget, first revealed in an FCC filing late last year, was spotted by a Reddit user. Compared to the older TRADFRI model, upgrades appear to include an integrated button and a more compact size. Plus, the gadget is relatively cheap, though this looks due to a somewhat basic feature set.

The IKEA TRETAKT smart plug has been spotted in a store in Germany by Reddit user u/johnvogel. The accessory was initially leaked alongside the INSPELNING plug in FCC filings last year and is also listed on the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) website, though this page provides very little information. It appears that the new device is smaller than the older TRADFRI Control outlet, though the exact measurements remain unclear.

Another benefit of the TRETAKT smart plug over the TRADFRI model is the addition of a power button, which looks like it turns your connected device on or off. A built-in LED indicates the status of the plug, and the new accessory works with the IKEA Home smart app. However, customers may be disappointed that power consumption data does not appear viewable in the app, like with the Kasa Smart Plug Mini. The omission of this feature has likely enabled IKEA to sell the device at a relatively low price, despite it coming as standard with a RODRET remote control powered by a single AAA battery.

The IKEA TRETAKT smart plug with RODRET switch currently sells for €9.99 in Germany. For comparison, the older TRADFRI Control outlet kit, which combines the wireless control outlet with the STYRBAR remote control, is priced at €14.99. It remains to be seen when the new accessory will reach customers in other countries.
