The IKEA TRETAKT is now available online in various EU countries. The new smart plug, which was previously spotted in a store in Germany, can make ordinary household items smart. For example, you could control a regular lamp with voice commands and set it to switch off with a timer.

IKEA is now selling its new TRETAKT Plug online in the EU. The smart home gadget is available for €7.99 in countries like the Netherlands and France, €6.99 in Spain, and 99 SEK in Sweden. Customers can also purchase the smart plug bundled with a RODRET remote control for €12.99/€9.99/179 SEK.

The TRETAKT was leaked in an FCC filing last year and then spotted by a Reddit user in a store in Germany earlier this month. The plug allows you to control regular household devices remotely using a connected smart home device, a remote control, voice assistants like Amazon Alexa or the IKEA Home smart app. For example, you can use the app to check that you have switched off the iron after leaving the house or set a timer to switch on a light at a particular time. To access app controls, you must pair the TRETAKT with the DIRIGERA gateway; you can pair up to 10 units to one hub.

Alternatively, you can pair the gadget with the TRADFRI gateway. The plug has a white plastic casing measuring 70 x 60 x 90 mm (~2.8 x 2.4 x 3.5-in), a built-in on/off button, and a maximum output of 3,680W. It remains unclear whether or when the IKEA TRETAKT Plug and Plug with remote control will launch in other countries like the US, the UK, and Canada.
