A well-known camera accessories maker, Hohem, has launched a new member in its iSteady series, the iSteady V3 Ultra. Hohem’s new iSteady V3 Ultra AI tracking smartphone gimbal builds on the success of iSteady V3, which debuted last year in July. Now, the company’s new Ultra variant brings notable upgrades over last year’s V3 model in terms of design and new upgraded features.
Design-wise, the Hohem iSteady V3 Ultra is now more compact compared to its immediate rival, the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P, measuring 160.5 x 44 x 98 mm (6.31 x 1.7 x 3.8 inches) when folded. By contrast, the DJI OM 7P comes in at 190 x 46 x 95 mm (7.4 x 1.8 x 3.7 inches). The gimbal is rated to handle payloads of up to 400 grams (0.88 lbs), a step up from the 300 grams (0.66 lbs) of the iSteady V3. It can support a variety of smartphones ranging from 58 mm (2.2 inches) to 98 mm (3.8 inches) in width. For reference, the DJI’s OM 7P and Insta360’s Flow 2 Pro only support smartphone widths ranging from 67 to 84 mm and 64 to 84 mm, respectively.
AI tracking is now better than before in the Hohem iSteady V3 Ultra. With its multimodal AI tracking module, it supports both subject tracking and object tracking—a significant upgrade over the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P’s basic AI tracking that only recognizes human subjects. Additionally, the V3 Ultra introduces gesture control for hands-free operation. Unlike the iSteady V3, it has a 1.22-inch full-color detachable touchscreen remote, offering high-definition live previews and full-featured control in real time.
This time around, Hohem has incorporated its latest in-house iSteady 9.0 anti-shake system with 3-axis mechanical stabilization into the V3 Ultra for smooth, shake-free footage. Another new addition is 360° Infinite Pan tracking, which keeps subjects centered while capturing dynamic movements. It has a built-in selfie stick that extends up to 205 mm (8 inches). Moreover, the V3 Ultra is quoted to last up to 9 hours off its 1,600 mAh battery, which will take approximately 2.5 hours to fully recharge. However, the battery life has come down slightly, at 9 hours versus the V3’s 13 hours.
The multimodal AI tracker also doubles as an adjustable 3-color (cool, warm, and neutral) fill light. According to Hohem, auto tracking and object tracking are now compatible with any app. Like other Hohem smartphone gimbals, the iSteady V3 Ultra also has Hohem Joy companion app support, which offers several features and free tutorials to master the gimbal.
