Hohem launched a new smartphone gimbal that can track everything
Hohem has expanded its M-series smartphone gimbal portfolio by launching a new iSteady M7 motorized gimbal in celebration of its 10th anniversary. The OEM’s new smartphone gimbal is a successor to the iSteady M6 (currently at $167 on Amazon), which was announced earlier this year in March. The M7 brings significant improvements over the M6 in terms of features and design.
The iSteady M7 is powered by Hohem’s in-house iSteady 8.0 anti-shake technology with 3-axis mechanical stabilization. This allows the gimbal to track the subject precisely with multiple rotational speeds. It has a detachable magnetic AI tracker, which uses its focus tracker to track moving subjects. The device can track objects, people, and animals, even when the subject moves out of frame. However, Hohem hasn’t disclosed the tracking technology name.
According to the Hohem, the auto-tracking is also compatible with the native camera app, Snapchat, and TikTok, alongside the Hohem companion app. The iSteady M7 features full 360° tracking, making infinite panning shots a possibility. The AI tracker also doubles as a CCT/RGB fill light with 40 lux illuminance that offers a range of cool and warm tones, along with 360° RGB ambient colors. The gimbal is rated to handle a payload of up to 500 grams (1.10 lbs), a step up from 400 grams (0.88 lbs) of the iSteady M6.
It can support a variety of smartphones ranging from 58 mm (2.2 inches) to 90 mm (3.8 inches) in width and up to 12.5 mm (0.49 inches) in thickness. Hohem also incorporated a built-in selfie stick with a 193 mm (7.59 inch) extension rod into the iSteady M7. This means that content creators can leverage the extension rod for capturing low-angle shots.
Like the iSteady M6, the iSteady M7 also retains the same foldable construction. Dimensionally, it measures 327 x 112.3 x 118.3 mm (12.8 x 4.42 x 4.65 inches) when unfolded and 335.7 x 57 x 159 mm (13.2 x 2.24 x 6.25 inches) when folded. The new Hohem gimbal is 73 grams heavier than before and now weighs 624 grams (1.37 lbs) without mounting a smartphone.
The iSteady M7 features a detachable 1.4-inch LCD touchscreen, up from 0.91 inches of the M6. Battery life has come down slightly, at 12 hours versus the M6’s 18 hours. There’s also 5 W reverse charging support, which means you can use it as a power bank too. Hohem offers a dedicated Hohem Joy companion app, which offers several features and free tutorials to master the gimbal.
The Hohem iSteady M7 is priced at $299 and comes in a single black color option. The gimbal is now available for purchase via Hohem’s official website and Amazon. Hohem’s new gimbal goes head-to-head with the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 and the Insta360 Flow/Flow Pro.
