The HP Omen Max 16 and HP Omen 16 were HP's only Omen-branded laptops to debut at CES. Now, a few more have joined their ranks - one of them being the Omen 17. It is essentially an all-AMD Omen Max 16 with fewer CPU and GPU choices.
Speaking of, the former maxes out at AMD's top-spec Strix Point-based Ryzen AI 9 365. Other choices included the Krackan Point-based Ryzen AI 7 350 and Ryzen AI 5 340. You can stick with their corresponding Radeon iGPU or opt for an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU or lower.
The HP Omen 17 comes in a bunch of memory/storage configurations. You can pick between a 1 TB/512 GB "performance" or regular NVMe SSD and pair it with 32/24/16 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM. Other HP Omen 17 specs include a 83 Wh battery, a 1080p webcam with an IR sensor, privacy shutter and dual mics, Wi-Fi 6E, 1 Gb/s LAN, and Bluetooth 5.4.
For I/O, you get two 10 Gbps USB-A ports, one 5 Gbps USB-A port, a 10 Gbps USB-C port, an HDMI 2.1 port and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack. The HP Omen 17 has most of its ports at the back, making it sort of a real desktop replacement. Besides, at almost 3 kgs, the laptop doesn't exactly scream portability.
HP offers two screen configurations for the HP Omen 17's 17.3-inch screen. The first one has a QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution with a refresh rate of 240 Hz, 300 nits peak brightness and 3 ms grey-to-grey response time. The other one is FHD (1,920 x 1,080) and clocked at 144 Hz, with the rest of its specs remaining the same.
HP will reveal the HP Omen 17's price and availability at a later day. For now, it is only sold in one colour variant: Shadow Black.
