Google Pixel Watch 3 gets loss of pulse detection and new emergency features in Germany and Portugal
Google has just released the December 2024 feature drop for Pixel smartphones and the Pixel Watch. As usual, it may take a few days before the update is available to all users of compatible devices. The update introduces two emergency features to Germany, which were previously already available in some other regions.
These include Fall Detection, which automatically triggers an emergency call if a user falls and does not get up again within 30 seconds and thereafter does not respond to the smartwatch alarm within 60 seconds. Emergency services are alerted by a voice message that the Pixel Watch has detected a serious fall and receive the user's GPS coordinates.

Car Crash Detection for the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 is also now available in Germany. This feature notifies emergency services and emergency contacts if the user has been involved in a car accident and does not respond to the smartwatch's notifications. Completely new for users in both Germany and Portugal is the Loss of Pulse Detection, which is only available on the Pixel Watch 3.
This feature detects when the heart stops beating due to respiratory arrest, poisoning or cardiac arrest, to name a few causes. If no pulse is detected, an emergency call is initiated after 20 seconds, which is enough time to cancel the emergency call in the event of a false alarm. Loss of Pulse Detection evaluates the data from the heart rate sensor and motion sensors via AI in order to minimize the possibility of false alarms.
