Garmin has just released a new set of stable updates to the Fenix 7, Fenix 7 Pro and Tactix 7. However, it is already testing a follow-up that resolves a crash that could affect its Connect IQ service.

Garmin has only just described its December 2024 Feature Drop for smartwatches like the Fenix 7 and Fenix 7 Pro (curr. $649.99 on Amazon). Nonetheless, the company has already moved onto a new stable update for not just the Fenix 7 Pro, but also the Fenix 7 and Tactix 7. With that being said, it seems that this update may soon be replaced by another build that throws a fresh bug fix into the mix.

On the one hand, System Software 19.38 can now be downloaded across the Fenix 7, Fenix 7 Pro and Tactix 7. According to Garmin, the update focuses on addressing outstanding bugs like one that could cause workout names to remain untranslated in some languages. For reference, the new update is said to contain half a dozen bug fixes, which are as follows:

  • Fixed issue where the device's workout schedule would not match Garmin Connect.
  • Fixed issue where weekly totals would be incorrect after changing the "First Day of Week" setting.
  • Fixed issue where pan/zoom icons don't appear on the map.
  • Fixed possible issue where sleep mode would re-enable after sleep tracking ended.
  • Fixed possible shutdown when saving or discarding an activity.
  • Fixed possible issue where workout names would not be translated in some languages.

Unfortunately, it seems that System Software 19.38 ships with a significant bug, despite being publicly beta tested throughout last week. Officially, Garmin has not admitted as much. Instead, it has flighted a new beta update, which it is distributing with a fix for an issue that could potentially cause the Connect IQ application to crash. In other words, it may be worth waiting for Beta Version 19.40 to transition to stable status as System Software 19.40, which we suspect should occur within the next few days.
