Google releases December Feature Drop for Pixel 9 Pro and the like
Google is introducing the potentially live-saving Loss of Pulse Detection feature for the Pixel Watch 3 via its December 2024 feature drop, and Pixel smartphones are also getting some new functions. Most notably, Ultra HDR photos can now be shared on Instagram.
Google has also improved image selection in Snapchat, which now also has access to albums, folders and favorites. The new dual mode of the Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold shows the camera preview on both displays, making it easier to take selfies with the main camera.

The first-generation Pixel Fold gets the "Made You Look" feature with the update, which plays animations on the secondary display so that children look in the direction of the camera. Google has revised the Emoji Kitchen in Gboard, which now makes it even easier to combine two emojis into a new one.
The recorder app is now able to block out background noise more effectively when the "Clear voice" function is activated. The home screen now has a so-called "Simple View", which offers a larger font and improved touchscreen sensitivity for greater simplicity of use.
Following the update, users of a Pixel tablet can swipe right on the lock screen to access a widget view in which smart home devices can be controlled without having to unlock the tablet. Lastly, the update introduces the beta version of a function called "Identity Check". If this function is activated, sensitive settings can only be changed via fingerprint authentication or facial recognition. This means that thieves can no longer simply deactivate "Find My Device", among other things.
