Game Console R46S: New budget gaming handheld released to take on Powkiddy RGB30 and Anbernic RG CubeXX with 1:1 display
Powkiddy spear-headed the 1:1 gaming handheld craze with the RGB30 (curr. $125.99 on Amazon) last year. However, while it introduced the vertically-orientated RGB20SX a few months later, it has let Anbernic and others muscle in with horizontal rivals to the RGB30. To that end, Anbernic released the RG Cube in the spring before offering up the RG CubeXX as a cheaper option earlier this month. Added to that, Z-Pocket Game started selling the ZPG A1 Unicorn in higher volumes over the summer.
Now, what appears to be a new white-label alternative is available for significantly less than any of its more established counterparts. Specifically, a device called the Game Console R46S can be picked up from marketplaces like AliExpress for little over $55. Unsurprisingly, it utilises the same budget chipset that also underpins the Powkiddy RGB20 Pro and ZPG GKD Bubble.

Moreover, the Rockchip RK3566 is complemented by 1 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 4,000 mAh battery. Furthermore, the Game Console R46S offers Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 4 connectivity, as well as dual MicroSD card expansion and a mini HDMI port for connecting it to an external monitor or TV. Arguably, its 4-inch IPS display is the star of the show, which outputs at 720 x 720 pixels in a 1:1 aspect ratio.
As RetroHandhelds notes, the Game Console R46S should be capable of emulating up to sixth generation home consoles and some PlayStation Portable titles. Currently, the device is orderable with 64 GB and 128 GB MicroSD cards for $56.29 and $59.62, respectively. At the time of writing, the Game Console R46S comes in solid white, translucent black, translucent orange and translucent purple finishes.
