Powkiddy RGB30 launches as new compact gaming handheld with 1:1 display for under US$90
Powkiddy has now started selling the RGB30, a gaming handheld that turned up online less than two weeks ago. As expected, the Powkiddy RGB30 combines a 4-inch display with the Rockchip RK3566 in a 145 x 86.5 x 18 mm and 207 g housing. For reference, Powkiddy already offers the Rockchip RK3566 in the RK2023 and X55.
According to Powkiddy's RGB30 product listing, it complements the 22 nm chipset with 1 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, as well as a 4,100 mAh battery. It is worth noting that the Powkiddy RGB30 is running a downclocked version of the Rockchip RK3566. Typically, the chipset can boost its ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores to 2 GHz, with a 950 MHz peak clock speed afforded to its Mali-G52 MP2 GPU.
However, Powkiddy reports that the RGB30 can push its chipset to 1.8 GHz, a 10% downclock. Additionally, Powkiddy includes two MicroSD card slots, one for the device's Linux OS distribution and the other on which to store games. As we have discussed previously, the RGB30 outputs natively at 720 x 720 pixels with a 1:1 aspect ratio.
Thus, the device has the ideal aspect ratio for older games. Currently, the Powkiddy RGB30 is orderable for US$89.99 in black, blue and white colour options. Alternatively, Powkiddy sells the gaming handheld with 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB secondary MicroSD cards for US$94.99, US$99.99 and US$109.99, respectively. At the time of writing, Powkiddy hopes to begin shipping the RGB30 in early September.
