Analogue Pocket: New Glow in the Dark model revealed with US$249.99 launch price and September 1 release date
Analogue has announced a new version of the Pocket, a few months after it announced pre-order dates for the Analogue Duo. Arguably, the company's teaser images give the game away, with Analogue having created a 'Glow in the Dark' limited edition model. According to Analogue, it has sourced luminescent plastic for the special edition model that absorbs ambient light, which it can then emit over time in a dark environment.
Purportedly, the gaming handheld will be capable of glowing green for up to 8 hours without increasing power consumption. As the images below show, the new colourway has a light green finish in most daylight, a finish that extends to all buttons. Analogue has not changed any other features, though. Thus, the Glow in the Dark edition has a 3.5-inch display that resolves at 1,600 x 1,440 pixels and delivers up to 10 hours of battery life.
Additionally, Analogue continues to equip the Pocket with an FPGA chip that it has designed to be compatible with the Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance without resorting to emulation. Moreover, the gaming handheld is compatible with Atari Lynx, Game Gear and Neo Geo Pocket Color cartridges via adapters that can be picked up from Analogue's website. Analogue will begin selling the Glow in the Dark edition for US$249.99 on September 1 at 15:00 UTC. In other words, the limited edition model is US$30 more expensive than the regular Analogue Pocket. Unfortunately, the company has not yet confirmed how many Glow in the Dark units it plans to sell.
