GKD Pixel available for under $80 as larger Anbernic RG Nano alternative
The GKD Pixel debuted some months ago, with Retro CN providing a first look at the compact gaming handheld in early September 2023. Following a subsequent showcase towards the end of last year, Keep Retro began selling the device in limited quantities for approximately $90. Now, the retailer has removed some of its previous sales restrictions, which coincides with a price drop across all colour options.
To recap, the GKD Pixel has a 2.4-inch IPS display that resolves at 320 x 240 pixels in a 4:3 aspect ratio. In other words, the device is a larger alternative to the Anbernic RG Nano, which remains available for $59.99 with a 1.54-inch and 1:1 display. Additionally, the GKD Pixel features a 1,300 mAh battery that lasts about fours between charges, as well as an Ingenic X1830 chipset and 128 MB DDR2 RAM.
As Retro Game Corps notes in its review, the GKD Pixel is powerful to emulate up to the PlayStation 1. However, frame skipping is necessary to achieve a smooth frame rate on some more complex titles, such as Bloody Roar II. Currently, the GKD Pixel starts at $77.99 in blue and rises to $79.99 in its black, red and green colours. Alternatively, the gaming handheld can be purchased with a screen protector and a carry case or both for between $4 and $8 surcharges. Please see Keep Retro's website for more details.
