The Fitbit smartphone app has been named one of the most battery draining on the market. The company has been redesigning this software this year, with many users unconvinced of the benefits of the changes.
A report from OurPCB, a printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer based in China, lists the top 20 iOS and Android apps that will drain your smartphone battery. Over time, such a drain could cause degradation of your smartphone’s battery. The Fitbit app came joint top with Instagram, each given an approximate percentage battery use value of 85%. Apparently, this level of battery drain was found to occur even when you are not actively using the app. The other apps in the top six are Tasker, AliExpress, Facebook, and LinkedIn, all of which are said to use up to 80% of your smartphone’s battery.
Other apps in the top 20 were Whatsapp, X, Revolut, Telegram and Uber, each with a potential battery drain of 75%. Different popular fitness apps, such as Garmin and Strava, were not named. OurPCB also looked at the apps’ permissions, highlighting location tracking and Wi-Fi as potential causes of this heavy battery usage. It is unclear which versions of the iOS and Android Fitbit apps were used in the testing or under exactly what conditions these tests were carried out.
