Update | Finally! Elegoo Centauri Carbon gets Canvas multicolor printing solution

Elegoo has informed us that the first batch of Canvas for Centauri Carbon has "sold out," so the shipping timeline has been changed to July 25.

More than a year after the release of the original Centauri Carbon 3D printer, Elegoo has finally released the multicolor printing solution for it. The Canvas system was first introduced with the Centauri Carbon 2 (check out our review), but a standalone version that works with the original printer is now available for pre-order.

The attachment or accessory brings multicolor printing and other features to the Centauri Carbon. Along with the ability to print up to four colors, the Canvas system brings RFID filament detection, tangle prevention, and auto-refill.

The Centauri Carbon is the budget-friendly Core XY 3D printer series from Elegoo, and the Canvas system for it has also been priced quite reasonably. It comes as part of a kit that allows it to be installed at the top of the Centauri Carbon. The kit includes four spool holders that attach to the side of the printer and a new hotend that users will need to install, replacing the existing one.

With the Centauri Carbon 2, Elegoo includes a see-through acrylic or plastic top hat kind of lid that makes it fully enclosed. The Centauri Carbon with the new Canvas system, would not be fully enclosed, as the top glass panel will not sit in place with the Canvas accessory attached, and how that would affect printing more challenging filaments remains to be seen.

The Canvas system for the Centauri Carbon is priced at $55 and is currently available for pre-order, with shipping starting June 30. The printer itself is priced at $319, so with the Canvas system, the total cost would be $374. That’s still cheaper than the Centauri Carbon 2 Combo at $449.
