Dell has introduced a new version of the Aurora Ryzen Edition R14, previously refreshed in October 2021. Predictably, Dell has focused on processor upgrades, although there are no Ryzen 6000 alternatives, unlike the Alienware m15 R7 and Dell G15 5525. Instead, the R14 now comes with up to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, a showcase of AMD's 3D V-Cache technology.
For reference, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D features 8 cores, 16 threads and a 4.5 GHz boost clock speed. Not only does the Ryzen 7 5800X3D have a 200 MHz lower boost clock than the Ryzen 7 5800X, its 3.4 GHz base clock speed is also 400 MHz lower than its non-3D V-Cache sibling. Still, the inclusion of 96 MB L3 cache helps the Ryzen 7 5800X3D punch above the likes of the Core i9-12900KS in gaming benchmarks, usually a strong suit of Intel's.
The Aurora Ryzen Edition R14 starts at US$2,949 with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but cheaper processor options remain. For example, Dell offers the R14 with a Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 9 5950X too, should you need more cores than the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has. Moreover, Dell provides a choice between the RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT or a slew of NVIDIA cards up to the RTX 3090 Ti. Other configuration options are available too, such as up to 128 GB of RAM (4 x 32 GB), a 2 TB SSD and various chassis.
