A seemingly unlocked and overclocked AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D has been discovered on the CPU-Z Validator database speeding at an incredible rate of 5,498.72 MHz. The record, which was unearthed by APISAK, reveals that the 8-core processor was tested quite recently (October 7) and has a B2 stepping. This could indicate that this is an engineering sample of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D with a base clock overclocking update in action. The maximum clock rate for this SKU is advertised as "up to 4.5 GHz".
It was reported back in April that MSI would offer (and later release) a BIOS update that would allow considerable overclocking for the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D on compatible motherboards, and it appears other OEMs have followed suit. This 2022-released Zen 3 processor, which almost hit 5.5 GHz, was operating in tandem with an Asus ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO motherboard at the time. The maximum TDP reported in the entry is 105 W.
If AMD is preparing to unleash an unlocked Ryzen 7 5800X3D onto the market, it should be able to fit in well with the current crop of Zen 4 products. The Ryzen 7 7700X (105 W) has a maximum clock of 5.4 GHz and the Ryzen 9 7900X tops out at 5.6 GHz while relying on a high 170 W TDP. Attractively for overclocking fans, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has a recommended price of US$449 compared to the US$549 stated for the Ryzen 9 7900X, and it can usually be found much cheaper than that.
