After grappling with abysmal launch stock which caused the prices of the RTX 50 GPUs to skyrocket and melting power connectors, the RTX 50 trio is now facing a new controversy of missing ROPs. Some RTX 5090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5070 Ti cards, around 0.5% per Nvidia’s estimates, have 8 fewer Render Output Units (ROPs) than Nvidia’s specified total. The result is a performance hit which, per Nvidia, is only around 4% on average in games. However, independent testing suggests that this hit can be bigger in benchmarks like 3DMark Time Spy.
Unfortunately, Nvidia directs the affected customers to investigate the issue themselves and contact the board partners to get a replacement GPU. This leaves gamers who don’t know how to identify the issue with a crippled RTX 50 GPU that they, likely, bought for quite a bit more than the official MSRP. This is even truer for folks who don’t have the skill set to build their own machine and often buy pre-built gaming PCs from system integrators like CyberPowerPC.
Fortunately, CyberPowerPC has now taken the initiative to ensure that customers who opt for an RTX 50 gaming PC get one with a fully functioning card. At the time of writing, CyberPowerPC seems to be the only system integrator offering such a guarantee.
Leaving aside the weird fact that a system integrator has to protect its customers from Nvidia’s blunder, it is a pretty good move on the part of CyberPowerPC. In the midst of widespread stock shortages, buying a pre-built PC is one of the few ways to ensure you get an RTX 5090/5080/5070 Ti at a reasonable price. So, CyberPowerPC giving its customers added of peace of mind is a good practice that other companies should also adopt.
