EA organized a multiplayer showcase for Battlefield 6 in Hong Kong recently where it revealed a few details that were previously unclear. The publisher has already confirmed that there will be cross-play with platform prioritization and at least the upcoming open beta will allow players to choose between open and closed weapon classes. Now, the latest information brings updates on the use of bots in servers.
As reported by Taiwanese outlet GNN citing an interview with the Battlefield 6 development team during a multiplayer reveal event in Hong Kong on August 2, the game will make use of AI soldiers to fill servers. This means if matchmaking is taking longer than expected and there aren’t enough human players, the server will be backfilled with AI bots, just like Battlefield 2042. Games like PUBG do the same so it’s not an uncommon practice.
Fans are not happy with this mechanic making a comeback. Hopefully, the number of people hopping on to Battlefield 6 will be enough for this to not be an issue at all. From EA’s perspective, they want to get players into matches quickly and not have them wait endlessly for other human players to join in.
Other details shared via the interview were about the time-to-kill or TTK system. The team reportedly said that they’ve done a lot of testing and also looked at historical data to develop the system for Battlefield 6 multiplayer. It will, however, evolve, based on player feedback.
Battlefield 6 will release on October 10 but an open beta will start on August 9, ending the next day. Another open beta will then start on August 14 and end on August 17. The single-player campaign and multiplayer modes have been officially revealed but the battle royale mode has only been teased for now.
