Garmin has released a new Public Beta update for the Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970. The third for the pair so far, Public Beta Version 12.60 follows v12.59 and v12.58 with another batch of bug fixes for both smartwatches. On top of that, the new update adds a new feature for the Forerunner 970 but not the cheaper Forerunner 570 (curr. $549.99 on Amazon).
Starting with the former first, Garmin claims to have addressed issues like one that causes problems measuring optical heart rate levels. Additionally, Public Beta Version 12.60 is said to improve fitness tracking reliability while also resolving a bug that would result in a device reboot when starting a mobility workout.
On the other hand, Public Beta Version 12.60 also adds a watch face data field for running tolerance on the Forerunner 970. Theoretically, this should allow runners to monitor training load and performance more easily than on previous software builds. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when Garmin will transition v12.xx builds to its stable software distribution channel at this stage. The full changelog for Public Beta Version 12.60 is as follows:
- Adds a watch face data field for running tolerance. (Forerunner 970 only)
- Ensures the evening report is only displayed once per night.
- Fixes a potential issue with measuring optical heart rate.
- Fixes an issue that could cause the device to reboot when starting a mobility workout.
- Fixes an issue that could result in a spike on the elevation chart.
- Fixes an issue where notifications could be accidentally dismissed with a swipe.
- Fixes an issue with deleting voice notes.
- Fixes other minor issues.
