Garmin is not wasting any time with the development of the first major update for its recent Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970 releases (curr. $749.99 on Amazon). Launched in May, the pair were kept on v6.xx software until last week when Garmin opened its Beta Program with Public Beta Version 12.58.
To recap, Public Beta Version 12.58 contained dozens of changes, including several new features and fixes for bugs that shipped with initial launch software. Now, the company has moved on to Public Beta Version 12.59, which it claims should have reached 100% of Beta Program participants by now. If that is not the case, then you manually download the new build by navigating through the Main menu to Settings, then System and finally to Software Update on your Forerunner 570 or Forerunner 970 before tapping 'Check for Updates'.
In a forum post, Garmin clarifies that Public Beta Version 12.59 contains fewer changes than its predecessor. Specifically, the company has called out five overarching improvements, although one of these is a collation of multiple minor but unspecified issues. The full changelog between Public Beta Versions 12.58 and 12.59 is as follows:
- Fixes a few instances that could cause the device to reboot.
- Fixes other minor issues.
- Fixes some cosmetic issues with the evening report.
- Improves the custom activity focus mode to be enabled after selecting a profile.
- Improves the timing of the battery saver prompt.
