Throughout last year, Anbernic managed to release at least one gaming handheld per month. Having flooded the market with over a dozen examples in 2024, it seemed that Anbernic would adopt a slower pace this year. However, that ended in April with the introduction of the RG557 (curr. $329.99 on Amazon).
Fast forward a few months, and it seemed that Anbernic would finish up July by releasing the RG477M. Borrowing the 4.7-inch display from the RG Slide, the RG477M also contains the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset, which Anbernic had previously only used inside the RG557. As it turns out, Anbernic will not be releasing a gaming handheld this month after all.
Instead, early RG477M reviewers have confirmed that the RG477M will be available to purchase from August 2. In lieu of an official announcement, The Phawx, Russ from Retro Game Corps and others claim to have received confirmation from Anbernic of this release date. On top of that, shipping should begin on that date too.
As always, the RG477M will be subject to a short early bird period that Anbernic will host for 72 hours. During that time, it will be possible to pick up an RG477M for $219.99 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage or for $269.99 with 12 GB of RAM and twice as much storage. After that early bird period ends, Anbernic will raise prices by $20 for each variant. Please see the videos embedded throughout for independent impressions of Anbernic's latest retro gaming handheld.
