The Lenovo Legion Go 2 is still without an official release date following its introduction six months ago during CES 2025 in Las Vegas. If recent suggestions are accurate, then Lenovo may keep fans waiting until September before they start selling its more powerful alternative to the Legion Go S (curr. $649.99 on Amazon).
In the meantime, the Legion Go 2 has popped up in prototype form. First surfacing with an AMD Ryzen Z2 chipset, a new video has highlighted the prospective performance of the same device with a Ryzen Z2 Extreme chipset instead. Surprisingly, the Legion Go 2 outperforms the comparable MSI Claw A8 even at this early stage.
As the video below shows, the Legion Go 2 with a Ryzen Z2 Extreme averages 49 FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080p with 7,710 frames rendered. As far as we can tell, Lines Tech enabled DirectX12 but kept frame generation disabled. Based on our benchmarks with the Radeon 890M, these benchmarks were likely achieved on medium graphics settings.
By contrast, the Claw A8 averages 44 FPS with 6,751 frames generated in the same graphics settings. In other words, MSI's first AMD Ryzen-powered gaming handheld achieves 10% lower average FPS than the Legion Go 2 and generates 12.4% fewer frames despite containing the same chipset. Apparently, this is because the Legion Go 2 has a superior cooling solution and 8 GB of additional RAM at its disposal. Regardless, it looks like some Ryzen Z2 Extreme-powered gaming handhelds could perform better than others when they all officially launch by the end of this year.
