Garmin has released software version 23.09 for the Descent G2 watch-style dive computer. This wearable was launched in February 2025 with features like a 1.2-inch AMOLED display and up to 10 days of battery life.
Software version 23.09 is the first stable release for the Descent G2. It brings new features including Device Passcode, for an additional layer of security. There is also the recently released sleep Breathing Variations tool and Connect IQ System 8. Plus, users can now get notifications when pairing sensors using open ANT connections, and view connection type information for paired sensors.
The release notes for version 23.09 also state that Garmin has optimized the inductive button temperature compensation, aiming to reduce the number of false inputs in particularly cold water. On top of this, there are various bug fixes, tackling issues with Dive Shortcuts, Pool Apnea STA training dives and the heart rate broadcast tool.
In a post in the Garmin forum, a representative for the company indicated that it has pushed software version 23.09 to 20% of eligible users of the Descent G2 (curr. $699.99 at Amazon). You can manually check for the update by holding MENU and selecting System > Software Update > Check For Updates.
