Not quite grown up yet. The new VivoBook from Asus sounds promising: A new quad-core processor and a dedicated graphics unit are wrapped in a premium-looking case. The sales price also seems very fair. While it looks similar to the high-quality ZenBook visually, taking a closer look, this is only the surface.

Lightweight performer. The new Vivobook is lighter and thinner than most 15.6-inch laptops equipped with the same GeForce GTX 1050 GPU. The keyboard and poor serviceability, however, bring down an otherwise great multimedia machine.

At Php 59, 995 for the configuration that we got this in, the Asus Gaming X570UD is quite compelling for what it has to offer and with the welcome surprises it has as well. It’s a decent notebook for productivity and a bit of gaming but may require a little extra care if you are planning to bring this laptop with you all the time but there’s more to love about this notebook.

The relatively thin screen bezels, weight of the notebook and addition of a USB Type-C port at this price point are the highlights of the VivoBook 15. The cooling system also handles stress better than a lot of competitors. While the build quality is a bit questionable, overall it makes for a great option if someone is in the lookout for an entry-level laptop that looks premium and handles everyday chores with ease.

We have to hand it to Asus for pricing the VivoBook 15 (X505Z) this aggressively. At Rs. 35,990, it's tough to find anything that matches the model we have in terms of specifications. The closest one that we could find, with Windows included, is the Acer Aspire 5 (A515-51) but it has 4GB of RAM and a lower resolution display for a bit more money. The VivoBook 15 (X505Z) launched in December with a 1-month exclusive tie-up with Paytm Mall, and even today, that's the only place that seems to have all the variants listed.

If your budget is constrained to around Rs 36,000, the VivoBook X505ZA is easily one of the best options if smooth performance is your primary concern. The laptop is also fairly convenient to carry around due to its compact size and lightweight. Asus has also managed to make it look striking for a budget laptop.

The Asus Vivobook X505 offers decent performance for the price. It has a vibrant display which is good for watching movies, but unfit for photo editing. The performance is acceptably good for using Office applications but programs like Photoshop or games like Doom are not meant to be run on this laptop. This machine is greatly suited for anyone who needs a portable machine for work and doesn’t want to spend much on it, but there are better machines if you’re a power users, albeit for a higher price.

At the given price of Rs 65,990, the Asus VivoBook X512 offers some really good features such as Core i7 processor, SSD, and dedicated graphics card. However, there are a few things such as overall build quality, display, audio quality, etc. where Asus could have done a slightly better job. Overall, Asus has made it clear that this is just a VivoBook laptop which is meant to be a value-for-money device and offers one of the best price to performance ratio.

The VivoBook 15 X512 is Asus' idea of offering a laptop with flagship class performance for a relatively low price. However, the real-world implementation isn't as practical as it looks on paper. The display is below average, the speakers are not up to the mark, the keyboard is not comfortable and the overall plastic build doesn't justify its premium pricing. The only reason it really makes sense to pick this up over a bulky gaming laptop is for the unbeatable performance from its 8th Gen Core i7 processor. And for Rs 65,990, it is still acceptable but you have to be really needy for the Core i7 performance only.

First, let’s note that at this price point, all expectation should be severely lowered. After all, this device is not battling with any MacBooks or Dell XPS 15s. Beyond aspects like its design and performance, the standout feature of the Asus Vivobook OLED is its Pantone Validated OLED display panel, which is one of the best displays in the segment. This makes the machine one that is great for those who deal a lot with visuals while working on college projects or office assignments. On a typical day, if I were in a rush and needed an affordable throwaway laptop to run a few basic tasks, the Asus VivoBook 15 X515 (X515MA-AH09-CA) would likely carry the day. It has just enough power to run everyday tasks and enough power to type away an urgent office document. But as this Asus Vivobook 15 review has shown, performance is where this model draws the line, and the dim display doesn’t make things better, either. At least there are lots of ports, so if the VivoBook 15 X515 is the only choice you have in your backpack, an external monitor, a set of speakers, and a mouse can help with some of its issues. But if you can swing it, at least consider spending a few hundred more on the Core-i5 version of the VivoBook 15 with more power in the processor.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, a Taiwanese multinational company, produces motherboards, graphics cards, optical drives, PDAs, computer monitors, notebook computers, servers, networking products, mobile phones, computer cases, computer components, and computer cooling systems. The company's 2007 revenues reached US$6.9 billion. ASUS also produces components for other manufacturers. The Eee PC initiated the netbook boom in 2008.
In the notebook sector, Asus had a global market share of about 11% from 2014-2016, making it the fourth largest laptop manufacturer. In the smartphone sector, Asus is not among the Top 5 and has only a small market share (as of 2016).
